Trailer Round Up – Deceptive Practice/ An Honest Liar

I mostly know of Ricky Jay from his work with Mamet so I am very interested to learn more about his magic career. This trailer reminded me of another film that’s been on my radar for a while, the documentary about one of my all time heroes James Randi. This trailer is about a year old and it looks like the documentary is completed but it is pretty expensive. Hopefully it will hit Netflix soon.

Trailer Round Up – R.I.P.D.

Most people have brought up how similar this feels to Men In Black with good reason. Some of the jokes were pretty broad, but for the most part RIPD looks pretty fun. Someone in the comments pointed out that this should have really came out in October and not in July which I completely agree with. With Pacific Rim coming out the week before and Wolverine the week after, this has a good chance of tanking.

Trailer Round Up – The Lone Ranger

I don’t know about this movie. With the exception of William Fichtner and Tom Wilkinson I didn’t find much to get excited about. I looks like the perfect movie to watch on HBO on a lazy Sunday afternoon, which is probably not what they were going for.

Trailer Round Up – Star Trek Into Darkness

I saw the 10 minute IMAX preview in front of The Hobbit and it was great. But recently I’ve been losing my excitement. I maybe because I’ve watched so much Star Trek recently (I watched all The Next Generation series and movies and am in the process of watching the Original Series). Maybe it is because the trailer makes it seem too dark and serious. Or maybe it is just my irrational dislike for Damon Lindelof. Here is hoping I’m wrong and the movie is as great as the first one.

Trailer Round Up – Man of Steel

Holy shit this is good. There is a lot of the same imagery that was in the previous trailers, but you get to see more of young Clark and Jonathan Kent, which I have to admit got me a little chocked up. The flashes of action at the end looked incredible. People like to say that the problem with DC characters is that they are basically gods, whereas Marvel characters are much more human and relatable. It looks like Man of Steel is embracing the godlike aspect of Superman and turning it into a positive. DC has finally got there shit together.

Trailer Round Up – Hunger Games: Catching Fire

I liked this trailer a lot. They managed to keep a lot of the mystery, but still give you an idea of where the story is going. It looks like Francis Lawrence isn’t using as much shaky-cam as there was in the first movie, which is great. I have high hopes for this one.

Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium trailer

I wasn’t really sure what to expect for Elysium. I was slightly worried when I heard the synopsis that it would thematically be a repeat of District 9 (that is exploring class systems). Well I shouldn’t have worried, it looks awesome. The imagery and action both look incredible. As potentially great as Blomkamp’s Halo movie could have been, I’m more than happy to have him continue to make original science fiction films.

The Wolverine Trailer

It looks ok, but when you compare it to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it looks oscar worthy, so theres that…

See for yourself!

A lot to do about everything

Holy crap this looks good. Good enough to get me to break my streak of nothing but Fake Movie Friday posts. Too bad the trailer has premiered as the same day as Hangover 3, which we will not be sharing on this site.

I want to see this so badly. It looks fantastic. I can’t wait. I watch this trailer and can’t help but think about how bad ‘The Great Gatsby’ looks compared to this film made in black and white by Joss Whedon. He shot it at his own home with a bunch of his friends.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Trailer

I was talking to Russ about this yesterday, and we both loved this trailer. The first movie was great, and this definitely doesn’t look like just a retread. The puns killed me.
