How Did We Get Here?

Rob Zombie hit it big with the band ‘White Zombie’ in the early 90s and then later as a solo act in 1998. You should have a clear picture of the man in your head.

He then spent years working on his horror film debut ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ which was released in 2003. BOth it and it’s sequel ‘The Devil’s Rejects’ got a bit of a cult following. This led to him getting to write and direct the ‘Halloween’ remake.

He will now start working on a film about the Philadelphia Flyers (It’s a hockey team Alex)

It is based on a true story. No, the Flyers were never attacked by monsters. They were never tortured by hillbillies. To the best of my knowledge they never employed a mass murder. They were just a good team that liked to fight and beat up a Russian team.

This is just a hockey movie. Zombie described the film as “ROCKY meets BOOGIE NIGHTS.” He was rumored at one point to be working on a new version of ‘The Blob.’ Sure horror remakes are getting out of hand but Blob is a story that I find interesting in the 50s version as well as the 80s. I would love to see another contemporary version of it. But he’s making a hockey movie. Seann William Scott has ‘Goon’ and Kevin Smith has ‘Hit Something’ coming out. Why do we need another hockey movie?

I love Rob Zombie. ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ didn’t age gracefully, but it’s still a lot of fun and its great to see Chris Hardwick and Rainn Wilson. ‘The Devil’s Rejects’ on the other hand is one of the best horror sequels ever made. His ‘Halloween’ had a strong first half, but disappointing second, and ‘Halloween 2’ is his weakest movie to date, but it is so insane that it isn’t a total loss. As much as I love horror movies, I’m all for Zombie stretching himself and trying his hand in a different genre. And from what I’ve read about it, there will still be a lot of blood…
