Disney Buys Lucasfilm! New Star Wars film in 2015

Disney just bought Lucasfilm outright for upwards of 4 BILLION dollars.  They are already stating that they are planning on getting a new Star Wars film (episode 7) into theaters by 2015.

I can barely believe this news.  Not only would Disney own the past rights to Star Wars, but they also will get their hands on the Indiana Jones franchise as well.  With their marketing muscle, we’re going to see some of the biggest films get bigger.  What I think might be the best part of this story is that George Lucas is apparently stepping down from his helm of Star Wars overlord to give new younger filmmakers a crack at telling stories in his world, while he’ll stick around as a creative consultant.  This is what I’ve hoped for for years.  Not only will episodes 8 and 9 happen too, but Star Wars world films will come out every 2 or 3 years after that.

Why the hell not?  Star Wars has such a rich world, that theres tons of other stories to tell.  Lucas created a fleshed out world so now with other people being able to get involved I think this can mean great things.

Just think about 2015.  We’ll have Disney putting out a Pixar film, Marvel’s Avengers 2, and Star Wars Episode 7.  They just won the box office war.

Fake Movie Friday: Murder-plex

I went to the 84th street theater on a Wednesday morning to go see Sinister. I didn’t even know there was a movie theater, but it was 6 bucks. No one was around and it freaked the crap out of me. Luckily two people showed up during the previews otherwise the movie would have been 100x scarier and it wasn’t really scary in the first place. Here’s the idea I got.

Murder-plex

A couple rides an escalator down holding popcorn. The lights begin to flicker as they near the theater showing their film “Denny and Thelma.” The lights showing the name of the film flicker as they walk through the door so it reads “De a Th .“

Fake Movie Friday: Immediate Surrender

Another day, and I again have no idea what to write for this FMF. How about something with the title:

Immediate Surrender

We start on an Special Forces training ground where a group of 6 soldiers are readying for a mission. The 6 soldiers (Rex, A-Train, B-Town, Reggie, Payne and Chief), 6 of the most highly decorated soldiers they have, finish what they were doing and are brought into a briefing room. Major Xen, who wears an eye patch, tells them they have a very important mission and goes through all the plans. There is a heavily fortified building in Cambodia that is housing a group of militia that are carrying nuclear and bio chemical weapons. They need to do this quietly, take out the enemy, neutralize the threat, etc etc. The whole time Xen is overly racist and makes a lot of references to blowing them off the map.

Days of Future Problems

Matthew Vaughn has stepped away from directing the sequel to ‘X-Men: First Class.’

He still wrote a treatment of the script and will be in a producer role along with Bryan Singer. Singer returing becomes every nerds fantasy. Singer really hit the bullseye with the first 2 X-Men films. They legitimized the comic book film.

Hopefully they find a competent director here and they don’t trust an X-Men film to a horrible director. Fox would NEVER do that right?

RATNER!!!!

Return of the Living Dead

The 80s were a great time for zombie movies and horror movies in general. The tone started to skew more toward fun and comedy than the bleak fare of the 70s. There is no better example of this than The Return of the Living Dead. Return which came out in 1985, the same year that Romero completed his Dead Trilogy (and you know how much I love trilogies). Audiences embraced the lighthearted Return much more than the grim and serious Day. Return, an unofficial sequel to Night of the Living Dead, is just so much fun. It is a great movie to put on during a party. It’s one of the best horror comedies of all time (right up there with American Werewolf in London), and if you haven’t seen it, give it a watch, it’s even on Youtube below:
