Skyfall To Be An Actual Film

Bond 23 is to be released in October. For some reason people still like to refer to these film by their number. Somehow people are able to do that with a straight face. They don’t say “23”, pause then say “ok, we should really stop this.”

How Did We Get Here?

In 1999 Kimberly Peirce wrote and directed the film ‘Boys Don’t Cry.’ The film was the story of a person born a woman, but starting a new life over as a man.  The film was a hit with critics and the public, applauding the way it presented the subject matter. Hilary Swank won the Oscar and everyone remembers her not thanking her husband.

What’s Kimberly Peirce working on now?

A remake of ‘Carrie.’

Fake Movie Friday – Juror #7

Pete and Russ did stellar jobs with their fake movie treatments, so I think I’ll jump on board and try it out myself.

Juror #7

Devin, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt because he’s in fucking everything these days, is a extremely friendly, social and lovable criminal with a masters degree in Forensic Science. He never steals from the people he meets, but he will, with a swift and steady hand, remove hair and fabric samples from them without them ever noticing. He has made a living off of burglarizing peoples houses who live more than 20 miles from his residence and framing the “friends” he’s made in the world.

Fake Movie Friday – Charlie Falls

Charlie Falls

Charlie Falls is loosely based on a non-existent author’s latter teenage years growing up in 1970’s Westchester, NY with his parents.  Josh Hutcherson plays Charlie.  His name is Charlie because it makes for a great title (Charlie Bartlett, Charlie Wilson’s War, Charlie St. Cloud). This is the type of movie that comes out in the early fall just as college students are going back to school.  The audience is clearly HS and college girls who think they are different and like dramas with cute boys.  It will have a very indie-fonted posted, and be reminiscent of something someone would make if they have only ever seen Wes Anderson films and nothing else.

Terrible Casting

The trailer for ‘Lawless’ debuted this week. First off this movie instantly reminded me of ‘The Newton Boys’, which was a painful memory. But mostly I have a huge problem with this film over the casting- the two tough brothers are played by Tom Hardy and Shia Lebeouf.

One of those things is not like the other.

Statham’s Back!

This is an exclamation the voice-over makes during a recent TV-spot for the upcoming action film ‘Safe.’ Statham only made a face for himself with the Guy Ritchie films, but he really made a name for himself with the Transporter franchise. ‘Transporter 3‘ was released in 2008, so this makes Jason’s return to action!

But wait…

The Mission Impossible Conundrum

Gina Carano is in talks to join the cast of Fast Six. This is of course a perfect move on the production’s part. A tough woman character is needed for that franchise to get more fans now that its not about racing cars, instead of the sexy lady characters the film is populated with.

If there’s on thing all of us here at Movie Movie can agree on, it’s that Fast Five was a masterpiece of action cinema. It worked at a fast pace, had likeable characters, and a good balance of believable and unbelievable stunts. Movies lately seem to want to choose only one path.

I call this the Mission Impossible Conundrum.

How To Do A Trailer Wrong: High School (Red Band)

This is a bad trailer.

Practically the entire first act of the film is included here. Your stoner comedy shouldn’t have a plot that needs this much set up in the trailer.
The Michael Chiklis dressed/talking weird jokes fall flat, which only softens the Adrien Brody is also dressed/talking weird jokes. A movie with a unknown lead such as this one needs to use these familiar faces as enticement. Even if their roles are small the peeks need to make you say “Oh wow, thats (blank).” Both their character’s scenes are forgettable. Even if you found ‘The Hangover’ to be terrible (we did), I’m sure you remember the Tyson reveal in the trailer.

Also this trailer includes unexplained nudity. At least give a joke to go with it. Even if it’s a punchline from another scene, it would have a made it a less awkward moment. Also, when was the last time a crazy skateboard trick was ever used in trailer to make a movie seem hip? The answer is most definitely prior to 2004.

In the spirit of Movie Movie, this movie seems like someone saw ‘Orange County’ and ‘Pineapple Express’ then an equal sign hovered over their head.
