Directing the Guardians

Last month at Comic-Con Marvel announced their plans for bringing the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ into the unified movie universe. Of course this was done without a director on board but it’s Marvel and we trust them. They’ve since released a short logline and a list of possible directors.

“A U.S. pilot ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.” This “U.S.” pilot could be Major Victory, which would be stupid as hell. Or it could be Carol Danvers aka Ms Marvel, or Captain Marvel, which would be there best idea. Female characters are desperately needed for the movie universe.

For the directors let’s start with the ludicrous. Ryan Bowden and Anna Fleck are the team behind ‘Half Nelson’ and ‘It’s Kind of a Funny Story.’ I don’t see how cosmic super heroes would fit for them. Peyton Reed director of ‘Yes Man’, which gets no one excited. He did direct episodes of ‘Mr Show’ and ‘The Upright Citizens Brigade.’ Marvel wants a good deal of comedy and this film so this is what Reed might bring.

The BEST choice is James Gunn. He directed the fantastic film ‘Slither’ and ‘Super’, which I’ve heard good things. He’s got comedy and horror in his pocket. At the cosmic level we are talking about large monsters so horror is needed. We are also talking about a main character who is a wise cracking Raccoon. HIRE JAMES GUNN

Slither is great, I haven’t seen Super, and I totally agree that James Gunn is the only choice they have in this list. I would assume Captain Marvel (I hope Captain Marvel), because no one Major Victory would be FUCKING STUPID. Who gives a shit about Major Victory? NO ONE. I totally forgot the character even existed until you said something. And this wouldn’t work as some Blue Beetle bullshit, it would just be a bad (worse?) idea.
