I don’t have much to say here. Title from Tigs
Taken Identity
We open in an office. It’s late at night and Tom is hard at work. His eyes are shutting a bit and he’s startled by a knock at the door. It’s his boss Mr. Morlun. He tells Tom that he earned partner with all his hard work and that means he should be able to relax a little bit, maybe take a vacation. Tom smiles at him and says he’ll think about it.
Tom leaves and heads home. He has a large apartment that he clearly recently moved into. We get the sense that it is too large for his needs but it fits his position. He eats a simple meal and checks his email. His work email is flooded with things but his private email is noticeably lacking in anything personal. He finds an email about a resort package being offered to him. He laughs it off and goes to bed.
He wakes up the next morning and finds a letter under his door that offers the getaway as well. He seems confused and heads out to get a coffee. After he sits in the café an attractive looking woman who tells him that the getaway offer is real and free for him approaches him. He questions her but is swayed and agrees to go.
He takes off work and arrives at an island resort. Everything is fancy and lavish. He flirts constantly with one female bartender, Karla, who after a while seems a bit off. He does learn from her that she lives in his city. She apparently rotates out every few weeks. He tells her that he doesn’t usually drink this much but finds he is blacking out most nights. He ends up telling her all sorts of things about his life.
He wakes up the final day and looks in the mirror and he no longer looks the same. A group of men bust in the room and knock him out. He wakes up in the back of a limo in another city. He questions what is happening and the man in the limo says that his life was sold. He is no longer Tom, but is Walter. He is told to check his wallet and finds a new ID with his new face for Walter. He tells Tom that he should be gaining some of Walter’s memories if he tries to think about it. Soon he will no longer remember Tom and be Walter.
Tom is kicked out of the car. He finds keys in his pocket and notices the ID matches the address. He heads inside and is confused as he realizes he recognizes things slowly. He decides to take money and head to the city he is from. He finds someone has taken over his life and now looks just like he did.
He is removed from his old office building. He doesn’t know what to do but ends up tracking down Karla. She admits that he was drugged and changed. People pay to have their life upgraded. They don’t just pay money though they have to sacrifice someone to work for this mysterious company. She is one such person, as was who ever this Walter was.
He gets her to help him though he realizes that either Tom had few friends or he’s forgetting more. He tracks down Morlun and tries to convince him of what happened. Morlun shoots Karla but seems confused about why he did that. The man from the limo enters thanking Morlun who doesn’t remember that he was a client who paid for this life. Tom flees.
He is attacked by all sorts of upgraded people as he runs through the city; rich, attractive, athletic, etc. They all seem confused about why they are doing it, though forgetting it as he gets out of their site. He runs and runs before stopping in an alley. Another person turns the corner and runs into the alley. They stare at each other for a second before Walter-Tom attacks. He kills this confused person and gets up. The mysterious man from the limo comes in and says “thank you Walter. Time to head home.” Tom, now completely Walter, smiles seeming to not even notice the body and walks away to get on with his life.
Someone becoming someone else at the end of the movie? Sounds like a Tigs movie to me! Well done sir!
Reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. That was a fun one.
