Fake Movie Friday Submissions: The Curse of Poltergeist

Here’s our good friend Andrew Dunn with our very first Fake Movie Friday submission. Enjoy

Inspired by ‘The Making of Psycho’ I figured I’d create another making of movie but for a film that actually has some behind the scenes drama.  There is controversy to this day over how much of ‘Poltergeist’ Spielberg directed versus the credited director Tobe Hooper.  Add to that the “curse” of Poltergeist.  Many (read ‘idiots’) believe the deaths of multiple actors associated with the film is evidence of a paranormal curse.  So here goes.

FAKE MOVIE FRIDAY: Helios

Though it was beautiful, in the end ‘Prometheus’ turned out to be an unnecessary prequel. It did little to explain what it was meant to. It just as well could have been another film. I’m going to do the same thing for Fake Movie Friday today. Here’s my prequel to ‘Pitch Black.’

Helios

We open on a small colony of Terra-formers on the planet from ‘Pitch Black.’ A few men are spilling out of a bar fighting. A single gunshot is heard and they turn to find our main character Davis, played by Zoe Saldana. The men stop fighting and are clearly a bit scared of her. She’s chief of security and a total hard-ass. Davis is her last name so you know she’s tough as NAILS!

Behold, Dunetheus!

Dunn, this one is specifically for you. It’s no secret that HR Geiger’s work on Jodorowsky’s failed Dune would eventually lead him to Dan O’Bannon who wrote Alien. The design for both the Xenomorph and Space Jockey were from Geiger’s works. It then makes sense that more of his work would serve as inspiration for Ridley Scott’s latest Prometheus. Only the works in question that inspired structures in Scott’s latest are actually designs that were going to be used for Dune! That’s right, decades later some of the visions of Jodorowsky’s insane, out of this world, I wish this movie had been made more than any other in the history of movies, Dune are coming to frution. Head over to http://badassdigest.com for a much better and well written description and after that check out Cellulord who actually made these amazing still comparrisons: Continue reading

Crashing the Block

What’s this!? Attack the Block director Joe Cornish has been signed on to make Neal Stephenson’s cyber punk epic Snow Crash? FUCKING AWESOME! The book was originally optioned not to long after it’s initial release in 1992 but every attempt at bringing this to the big screen has failed. Demolition Man director Marco Brambilla was at one point attached to direct, but that fell through. If you don’t know Snow Crash I highly recommend picking it up and also checking out this fake trailer based on the book done with legos:

Fake Movie Friday – Roughrunna

It’s been a while since Guy Ritchie made a straight up dark comedy with his style of action, so I’m going to make one.

Roughrunna stars Jason Statham as Liverpool Football Club star Lynn “Roughrunna” Bailey.  He’s one of the stars of the English Premiere League.  He’s the badboy.  There are a lot of early quick cuts of him kicking balls into goals, cheering, drinking, snorting coke in bathrooms and having sex with prostitutes.  Lynn appears to have it all.  He even makes money on his own matches by placing bets with local bookie Wallace “Pounds” Craven.  They call him “Pounds” because if you lose a bet and don’t pay him, he’ll get his pound of flesh (cut your bollocks off).  Pounds is played by Tom Wilkinson, and his muscle Opie is played by Vinnie Jones.  Anyway, we get the hint through a lot of incomprehensible cockney accents that Lynn is having money trouble.  His girlfriend Mary, played by Ruth Wilson, wants him to stop gambling and instead use whatever little money he has left to open up a Fish and Chips Shop.  We see that Lynn’s other talent outside of soccer is cooking.  He idolizes Gordon Ramsay, who later on has a cameo in the film.  Anyway, Mary tells him that if he doesn’t quit betting she’ll leave him.

QR Code Overload

Branded is an upcoming film featuring the talents of Leelee Sobieski, Jeffrey Tambor, Ed Stoppard and Max von Sydow. It seems to be about a dystopian future full of evil corporations and monsters. I think. It’s kinda got a Dark City vibe going for it, which I dig. The trailer and poster released for this film have tons of QR codes attached to them. In the poster found below I can spot 4, the trailer has over a dozen. My phone isn’t picking up on this QR codes, but I’m dying to find out what secrets they hold. Check out http://brandedmovie.com/ for ever more QR code fun Continue reading

Fake Movie Friday: The Quarterback Kid

It’s midnight and another Fake Movie Friday is upon us! I know the suspense has been killing you, which is why we’re starting so early. Enjoy! (Sorry for the length…again)

The Quarterback Kid

Billy, played by Cameron Bright, has just entered his freshman year of high school in a town he just moved to. He has made only one friend, another social outcast Daryl played by Daryl Sabara. His father Chaz, played by Matthew Fox(or if he’s not available Hank Azaria), is an ex pro quarterback and now owns used car dealerships in 3 states. They are opening their new super lot, in Michigan someplace, and Chaz needed to be close to this new location.

Kids Do The Darndest Things

Every year there seems to be at least a few Exorcism/Possession movies. We’ve already had The Devil Inside this year, last year there was The Rite, the year before there was The Last Exorcism (depending on your view point of that movie though it may not fit into this list at all) just to name a couple. I make sure to see these and they are almost always disappointing, though I have come to really enjoy The Last Exorcism. Even from the trailers these movies seem to follow the same formula with the same scenes repeated over a multitude of movies.

Enter Torture Chamber, an upcoming movie from Dante Tomaselli, director of Satan’s Playground, Horror and Desecration. Needless to say, I think he knows a thing or two about Satan and possession. The film stars Vincent Pastore (The Sopranos), Lynn Lowery (The Crazies), Christie Sanford (Satan’s Playground), and Ron Millkie (Friday the 13th). The trailer for this movie scared the shit out of me. I love the eerie sound mix. The trailer plays out like the wet dreams of the kids from Children of the Corn. The posters for this, released earlier today (and found below), also leave me with such and uneasy feeling that I cannot wait for this fucking film. The Elders Have Arrived

A bunch of behind the scenes stills from the set of Prometheus were just released over on the Prometheus Forums. Most of the photos seem to be of the Engineers getting into costume, along with a couple of still shots from the movie. Oh right and then there is this one shot that shows an Elder, who are believed to have created the Engineers, from what would appear to be an extended intro. I assume this Elder Engineer heads home in that ship that is perpendicular to the ground in the opening. Check it out, and then check out the others:

Resident Evil 5 & How I Stopped Caring After 1

Paul W.S. Anderson and Len Wiseman have now made a combined NINE Underworld and Resident Evil films, eight of which, star their wives.  This is two things:

1) Nepotism

2) and a shame because all of the movies in either franchise are terrible late winter/early fall dumps that no one cares about, yet somehow keep getting sequels.

There are so many excellent ideas out their dying to get greenlit, much less, sequeled, but somehow we are about to get a 5th Resident Evil.  I’m not even going to get into how they have gone so far off the reservation in terms of the plot of the videogames because that is a rant for another day, but this trailer looks atrocious.  I used to think Milla Jovovich was better than this, but maybe she isn’t?  i can’t remember the last film she made that wasn’t a P. W.S. Anderson joint.

Anyway, check out the trailer below:
