Terry Crews, Expendables 2, & How I was TERRIFIED into seeing it.

Everyone who works in marketing is an idiot.  Lets just be clear.  Unless of course you work for Old Spice or Lionsgate.  The GENIUSES (and I’m not being facetious) behind the Expendables 2 campaign, just ensured that they will get my hard-earned $14 with this trailer for the trailer starring Terry Crews.  This man could sell anything and I would buy it.  Excuse me while I go slap on some Old Spice High Endurance at 10:00pm.

Like, Love, Hate- Thor

Just to be clear I loved the casting and performance of Idris Elba. If you have a problem with it, you need to go fuck yourself. Moving on.

Like- The Balance

I thought this movie was going to be awful when seeing the trailers. The humor seemed flat, Asgard looked stiff, and Earth looked like scenes from Just Visiting. I wanted to punch Kat Dennings in the face. To my surprise the film really did a great job grounding Asgard in the opening 20 minutes. It set up the world Thor came from well enough to make some of the ‘man out of time’ jokes fun. The pet store scene still kills me.

Like, Love, Hate- The Incredible Hulk

Like- The Fast Opening

This movie does us a great service in not charging us for another origin. Whether you saw Ang Lee’s Hulk (you shouldn’t have), whether you hated it (you should have), or whether you loved it (you shouldn’t have) we can all agree that we understand the story of Hulk in some form, and this movie respects that. Amazing Spider-man should learn a lesson from this. Since EVERYONE saw Spider-man, and even if you didn’t you know Spider-man.

Like, Love, Hate- Iron Man 2

Like- Black Widow

When it was first released that Scarlett Johansson was playing Black Widow in this film I was nothing but worried that the incredibly complex and history rich character of Natasha Romanov would be reduced to cleavage. I was very happy to see that they gave her some great scenes. They showcased her spying as well as her fighting skills. Yes, there was cleavage. Yes, I enjoyed it.  What made me really appreciate her character was that it was still and Iron Man movie that Black Widow was a small part of. We didn’t have to spend forever getting to know her. I do hope there is more to her in Avenger’s.

Avengers Countdown!

‘Avengers’ is out this week! We will all be there at midnight. We could not be more excited. This has been building for years. Nothing like this has ever been attempted. The closest we have ever come to this on the big screen is ‘Alien vs. Predator.’ Now let’s all get that comparison out of our heads.

This week we’ll be going through the films that have gotten us here. Let’s play Like, Love, Hate!

#whitepeopleproblems the movie

I’m sorry Judd Apatow, but I just think its WAY too soon to be rebooting Dan In Real Life:

The things that annoy me about this trailer:

1) People laughed in the theater like fifty eleven times, even though nothing was funny.

2) We Are Young is the song in the trailer even though it should have been Solsbury Hill.  Don’t believe me?  Just rewatch that trailer on mute and play this youtube clip of Solsbury Hill.

If you don’t immediately feel transported to Connecticut something is wrong with you

Skyfall To Be An Actual Film

Bond 23 is to be released in October. For some reason people still like to refer to these film by their number. Somehow people are able to do that with a straight face. They don’t say “23”, pause then say “ok, we should really stop this.”

How Did We Get Here?

In 1999 Kimberly Peirce wrote and directed the film ‘Boys Don’t Cry.’ The film was the story of a person born a woman, but starting a new life over as a man.  The film was a hit with critics and the public, applauding the way it presented the subject matter. Hilary Swank won the Oscar and everyone remembers her not thanking her husband.

What’s Kimberly Peirce working on now?

A remake of ‘Carrie.’

Fake Movie Friday – Juror #7

Pete and Russ did stellar jobs with their fake movie treatments, so I think I’ll jump on board and try it out myself.

Juror #7

Devin, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt because he’s in fucking everything these days, is a extremely friendly, social and lovable criminal with a masters degree in Forensic Science. He never steals from the people he meets, but he will, with a swift and steady hand, remove hair and fabric samples from them without them ever noticing. He has made a living off of burglarizing peoples houses who live more than 20 miles from his residence and framing the “friends” he’s made in the world.
